Event Admin H10k - 2010

Welcome to the Hursley 10k 2010

All the H10K team are very much looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday. This is the fourth year the event has been run and we hope we have again arranged everything for a great event. Apart from the run itself there will be a number of stands including a BBQ, Bouncy Castle, Up & Running Free Bananas and more. We are very much focused on making this event a great day out and not just a run and dash back home, so we do hope as many of you as possible will be able to stay in the area for a while after the event. All the team are currently doing the standard “sun dance” that has provided us with good weather for the last three years.

How to get to Hursley

All you need to do is go to Google maps and search for Post Code: SO21 2LA and then get the directions to the start by putting in your own post code as the start point.

The village has a 30mph speed limit so please keep your speed down, as this is very much appreciated by the locals.

Registration Area

The Registration Area is in the Main Hall of John Keble Primary School. Race Packs containing Race Numbers, Chip Timing, maps, cable ties and all information will be ready for collection. You will be able to collect your number at the following times:

a.       Saturday 18th between 3-4 pm for those runners in the area and who want to miss the morning rush on race day.

b.       ON RACE DAY from 8.30am until 10am

It would help if you could check your name is listed on our running sheet and note your running number - check at this link. (you do not need to print and present your entry)

T-Shirts

If you have ordered one of our fantastic t-shirts please collect your race number then present it to the t-shirts desk in the registration hall. We hope to have a few for sale on the day while they last.

Refreshment points

There will be two refreshment points on the running route and one at the finish.

Toilets

There will be toilets at the start/finish area.

Changing facilities

There will be change rooms in the Registration area where you will collect your race pack. There are no showers.

Kit storage

We will not have a place for runners to leave any kit while they are running. Items left in the changing rooms are left at the runners risk.

Parking

We have two areas for parking. The first is very close to the start/finish area. When this area fills up we will use the overflow parking area. This area is a 5 to 10 minute walk from the start/finish area. We will have marshals guiding you within the parking areas, please follow their instructions.

Please do not time you arrival for the last minute. As the overflow parking is further away from the start/finish area, you need to ensure that you arrive at least half an hour before the start of the race in order to be able to park and pick up your numbers. We cannot delay the race for late runners.

Prizes

We have an entry range from 17 to 76 this year which is great to see. The age of 39 is the most entered with some 32 runners at this age.

319 male runners and 214 female runners. 85 club runners and 448 non club runners. 100 runners have not completed a 10k before so good luck to them.

·         1st prize male and female £25 – and free entry next year

·         2nd prize male and female £20

·         3rd prize male and female £15

·         Veteran 40+ on day of race male and female £25 – and free entry next year

The Special Prize is that hopefully we will put a big smile on everyone's face, after a great run which will have made some money for good causes. A smile is recyclable - pass it on....

Note: In reducing the cost of entry to this year event we have decided that no medals will be given on crossing the line. There might be something else however!

The Start Area

The start area will be marked and in time frames faster runners should position themselves nearer the front of the start.

The Course

Details of this year’s unique course can be found at this link http://bit.ly/b9VFYj You can also see a video that was shot last Sunday taking you around parts of the course:

Chip Timing
You will be asked to attach the chip to your shoelaces using the plastic ties provided. The chip will be collected from you at the end of the run. The chip will ensure an accurate time is provided for all runners.

We think it is important for the competitors to realise that the race is operating on a 'gun start', in accordance with the EA regs, so the faster runners should position themselves nearer the front of the start. The benefit to the competitors of chip timing is the speed of the time being posted online and the accuracy of the time. You should also realise the benefits to the organiser in not having to record and process the times manually and in being able to hold the prize giving without too much of a delay. Finally you need to understand that chip timing is not without its problems, but that it should enhance the racing experience for everyone.

The race finish area and results

Every time a runner crosses the finish line mats the time is recorded through the chip timing. Please obey the marshals in the finish area who will be helping to remove “chips” from your shoe laces.

Queries about incorrect results

If you have a query, or you spot an error in the results, please let the organiser know. If the error is reported within a week of the results being released we will look into it and do our best to resolve the issue.

There will be an additional check this year to try minimise the risk of a problem with results by having two chip program’s running and through video.

The Kids Fun Run.

Come and join us for a fantastic family fun run. The fun run is open to all age groups – so come on all you budding young athletes!! The fun run is a 1.5k cross country race/walk for the little ones!! It starts at 12.00 and entry is on the day with a fee of £3.00. All runners get a t-shirt for registering and a funky snap band on completion! All proceeds to go to the school and the parish hall.

Proceeds from the event

By entering this year’s Hursley 10k multi terrain charity event you are helping raise money for local good causes; including John Keeble School and the Hursley Parish Hall. We thank you very much and we hope you enjoy your day.

Note: Due to the nature of the multi terrain course and the 10k and fun run is unsuitable for normal standard wheelchairs.

We hope we have covered everything within this email, but please do let us know if you have any questions.

Good luck on Sunday the Hursley 10k Team.
