Hursley 10 & 5 k + Fun Run feedback

Congratulations!

Well done 10K team. We had a great time on Sunday - a really nice village event & great weather again. Thanks for all the efforts to make it all happen. Keep up the good work - and we'll get Toby in training for 2010!

I thoroughly enjoyed Sunday’s 10k race – thanks for organising it.  I do have a couple of suggestions for future 10k races, having also ran your first year 10k:

  1. It would help if the start had suggested time zones, so the quicker runners could start at the front and slower runners at the back.
  2. The first years run finished with a long step descent through the woods, immediately before the final 2 fields.  This was brilliant, and gave the race a special character.  Please reconsider reinstating this final downhill.
  3. This year’s race went up the steep path (see point 2) early on in the race.  This caused a long bottleneck because the path was narrow and the field was still quite bunched.
  4. One suggestion to cater for points 2 and 3 would be to:  keep this year's start upto the entry to the woods.  Then cross in front of the woods and, essentially, reverse the direction of this years race,  eventually finishing with the long downhill path through the woods, and back across the fields.  This would be almost exactly the same distance as his year.

Please, please keep the long, steep downhill finish.

PS. It’s still a wonderful race and I hope to be back next year, whatever the course.  Thanks for listening.

Hursley 10k 2009 Post Race Report.

Hursley 10k 2009 Post Race Report.

The third running of the Hursley runs is now behind us. We hope that everyone who was there had an enjoyable day and that all the runners enjoyed their runs. We've had good weather at all of the previous runs and this year was certainly no exception.

There were a few minor glitches for which I do apologise. How could I lose the list of winners!? That's me banished to the furthest corner of the route next year! And for those of you who thought that you'd lost six hours of your lives when you looked at the race clock at the finish line, you'll be relieved to know it was a glitch with the clock and you are credited with the correct time in the official results.

Please do send us any feedback you may have. All feedback is taken into consideration when planning the next run.

Congratulations to our winners. The 10k was a replay of last year with Andrew Welch the winning male in a time of 34:49 and Natalie Cain the winning female with a time of 40:18. The first male in the 5k was Ali Badcock (who is a lettings manager working for our main sponsor, The Halifax) who finished in 19:49 and the winning female was Sandra Bowers with a time of 22:13.

The amount raised for the village causes was around £5000.00.

The routes that we run are only possible with the permission of the Hursley Estate owners, so we would like to thank Finian and Diana O'Sullivan for giving us access to the private areas of their Estate. Please note that now the event is over all runners are asked not to enter the private areas of Hursley Estate and Ampfield Woods.

The run would not be the success it is without the help of the many volunteers who give up their time leading up to, and at, the event. A big thank you to each and every one of you.

And finally, thank you to all our sponsors for your help and sponsorship.

Kind regards
The Hursley 10k 2009 Team :

Gary Jarman
Ian 'H' Wells

A big thank you to our sponsors.
